Take An Inside Look of Windows with What’s Running

image There are numerous task manager replacements out there that can be used to monitor and troubleshoot what is running behind the scenes on your PC. Recently another app of this type that has crossed my plate is called What’s Running, with the latest version (3.0) currently in beta (the testing stage of software). If you are someone that is called upon to troubleshoot potential computer issues, such as a computer that suddenly has become sluggish, this app may be for you.

What’s Running definitely provides more information, than the standard Windows task manager, when it comes to Processes, Services, Modules, IP Connections, Drivers, Startup and System Information. One “cool factor” with this app is that you can capture snapshots, of the current state of your PC, then compare the snapshot to another snapshot take at a later time. This is helpful when troubleshooting suspected stability issues. I noticed on the site that there is no “portable version” specifically available; however, I did find that you can run the setup and directly install What’s Running onto your flash drive OR use Universal Extractor to unpack the setup file (then copy the unpacked files to your flash Drive). I noticed that the first go round of running What’s Running, it takes some time for the program to poll your system; however, once it has completed that task subsequent startups is much faster.

What’s Running is a product that gives you an inside look into your Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista/Windows 7 system.

Lots of great features including hierarchical process view, usability improvements, more in-depth information, smart information navigation and much more!

Explore processes, services, modules, IP-connections, drivers and much more through a simple to use application. Find out important information such as what modules are involved in a specific process.

Control your system by starting and stopping services and processes. Configure your startup programs easily.
