I am a big user (and tester) of Google’s Gmail, Calendar, Tasks, etc… My only complaint is that the interface is an interface of clutter; especially if you are not used to it. I can remember the first time I used Gmail, I was not to fond of what I was seeing. I eventually adjusted and have to say, I really do love my Gmail.
This is all about to change. Google recently announced that they have “embarked on a series of interface updates to help strip out unnecessary clutter and make Gmail as beautiful as it is powerful”. As with anything, people do not like change; therefore, Google will be gradually adjusting the interface. Also, to help ease these pains of adjustment, you can preview the new look (as a sneak preview) by going into the MAIL SETTINGS of your Gmail account, select the THEMES tab and click on the “PREVIEW” or “PREVIEW (Dense)” themes.
Why two themes? Our new interface will eventually expand dynamically to accommodate different screen sizes and user preferences, but until then you can pick the information density that you prefer.
I have been testing the new appearance and I have to say I personally do like the clean (clutter free) look that Google is working on. I am also finding it is easier on the eyes.
