TitanTV At The Forefront Of Online TV Guides

image  I recently upgraded the TV tuner card in my PC to the Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1250 card. This upgrade allows me to pickup my local digital channels without the need of a digital converter that the cable company provides (at a cost).

Following the upgrade I started exploring for online TV guides and came across TitanTV. What fascinated me about TitanTV is that it detected the WinTV-HVR-1250 card in my computer; and, as a result I can click on a TV show selection on the TitanTV webpage and the channel will automatically advance (or change) to the selected channel.  Also, I can schedule and record TV programs with TitanTV and my WinTV-HVR-1250 tuner card. It took some configuring to get this to work, but it is awesome once you get it set up.

Unbeknownst to me, TitanTV has maintained an online presence since 2000 and touts that it provides the most accurate, over-the-air, cable and satellite channel lineups. When visiting TitanTV for the first time, TitanTV will attempt to automatically determine your channel lineup for your area by detecting the IP address (internet protocol) and the physical address for your area.

The detection process assumes the location of your internet provider and your own physical address to be within the same general area. With this information, a popup box opens prompting you to: 1) verify the process has correctly assumed your general location from your IP address and 2) select the desired broadcast source (Over the Air, Cable, Digital Cable, or Satellite) serving that area to view that lineup’s channels.

There are many customizable features and options to TitanTV.  If you are looking for an online TV guide I highly recommend that you give this one a try! There is even an iPhone app for TitanTV…

  1. Interesting. I’ve never really heard of TitanTV but am in the process of looking into some sort of over-the-air service via my PC. I’m wondering if this will work in the UK as you mentioned that it uses my IP. If so then this is what I could have been looking for for a long time. All of the other services similar to this in the UK are, quite frankly, rubbish and very slow to update.

    1. Ryan,

I never heard of it either and don’t know how I missed it. TitanTV, according to the site has been around since 2000. This may give you the solution you were looking for.
