Please, don’t watch the solar eclipse outside… Watch it online at NASA…

I have been seeing numerous articles posted on the internet about the eclipse that is to occur Monday, August 21st and the warnings and “how to’s” associated with watching it. One article that impressed me was from an Ohio optometrist who issued this plea last Friday: “Please, don’t watch the solar eclipse outside…”. He went on to say that there are serious risks associated with viewing a solar eclipse directly, even when using solar filter glasses. You can read more about the Ohio Optometrist’s warning by clicking on the source link below…

I guess this all boils down to the fact that you better know what you are doing. Personally, I am not going to risk my eyesight.

If you do want to watch the eclipse, watch it online. For example, the best source I found was NASA. They have an eclipse site setup (see source link below) where it will be live streamed (12A to 4P EDT), from 12 locations, using airplanes, telescopes, and high altitude balloons. Below is a global depiction (of the USA) and the tracking of the eclipse; AND, a chart giving you an idea the timeframe of the eclipse based on commonly known locations across the USA.

This map shows the globe view of the path of totality for the August 21, 2017 total solar eclipse.

Example of eclipse times for cities in the path of totality.
