A BIG Welcome to Select Real Security Featuring a Malware Removal Guide

The most enjoyable parts of being a tech blogger is the people that you meet and what you will learn from them. I often tell young people that if you want to learn about tech and keep up with tech, go to the bloggers.

Recently the webmaster at a site, called Select Real Security, contacted me and asked if I would possibly do a review on the portion of the site called, Malware Removal Guide. Typically, being who I am and what I am about, I always oblige; especially if the content is of good quality and serves a purpose.

What I found, after reviewing the Malware Removal Guide, is that I wanted Select Real Security on my blogroll. This site is awesome in that it contains over 100 links to useful security related resources that include articles and guides on virus and malware prevention.

Navigation and layout of the site makes it easy, even for those who are unfamiliar with security terms, software, etc… You can tell that the webmaster of the site has put a great deal of time in putting this all together. It is a “go to” site for security related resources.

Select Real Security

In the end, both What’s On My PC and Bookmarks4Techs shook hands with Select Real Security to make it a permanent connection. Select Real Security’s Malware Removal Guide has also made the Bookmark This Collection (which is growing daily) at Bookmarks4Techs.

So, take a moment to welcome Select Real Security to the What’s On My PC blogroll…

The “My 7 Links Challenge” at What’s On MY PC

The Webmaster of Computer How To Guide contacted me directly via email and informed me that he had nominated What’s On My PC for the My 7 Links Challenge. Upon receiving this email and nomination I was reluctant to participate and was thinking, what is this all about?

My 7 Links Challenge

It appears that the My 7 Links Challenge has originated from a blog called Tripbaseblog, and after previewing the site and reading the rules [HERE], I decided to participate. It will be interesting to see what traffic comes this way after taking on this challenge.

The goal of this challenge is to unite bloggers (from all sectors) in a joint endeavor to share lessons learned and create a bank of long but not forgotten blog posts that deserve to see the light of day again.

—————————————————–

What I have to do here is dig up 7 links from What’s On My PC for the following categories; then, nominate (5)-five more bloggers.

The most beautiful post
The most popular post
The most controversial post
The most helpful post
A post whose success surprised me
A post I feel didn’t get the attention it deserved
The post that you I am most proud of

Let the challenge begin…  Thank you Computer How To Guide for the nomination!  I actually enjoyed doing this…

HAPPY THANKSGIVING – Giving Thanks To My Readers

In this post I gave thanks to anyone who has ever visited my blogs (What’s On My PC and Bookmarks4Techs).  I randomly picked the first reader of the blog I could locate and gave recognition to them. In this case, by chance, it was another blog – Talinorfali – Just Another WordPress Blog.  The response from this was awesome…

If you experience Windows Vista Service Pack 2 installation issues…

Windows Vista, when released, was a disappointment and actually set Microsoft back a few steps. This article was drafted, not to provide a specific solution, but to provide options to explore that may lead to resolving the problem where the Service Pack failed to install…

bing – Microsoft’s New Search Engine

This post was drafted back in May of 2009 when Microsoft was making a play for it with its’ search engine Bing. For some reason, as a result of this post, readers thought I was Microsoft.  As a result, I received (and still do) a flood of responses requesting I (Ramblin’ Rick) remove Bing from their computers…  Bill Gates, you owe me on this one!

Creating an AOL Install CD… (if you must:)

Remember AOL (America Online) and how they would send you the CDs in the mail, as a marketing tactic, to entice you to subscribe to their service? Well, they stopped doing that and it created a dilemma for people who needed to manually install AOL.  I came up with a solution (on my own) and posted it…

This post dealt with email ethics and I do not think people really got the point of what I was driving at on how to spot the lie, don’t be part of the lie and don’t start the lie.  I guess folks didn’t like the idea that some of them are living in a world of email lies…

Bookmarks4Techs is Experiencing a Growth Spurt

This is an update of sorts on my sister site Bookmarks4Techs. I think I found the niche for the site as the number of daily page views has grown by leaps and bounds. The site features numerous sidebar RSS feeds from some of the top tech sites out there, links to every tech site that I can get my hands on, and links to tech products (and deals) that I find at Amazon. One hot draw to the site is the Hot Tech Site of the Day where I feature a Tech Site each day with links to articles hosted by the selected site. Bookmarks4Techs is coming into its’ own and is relatively new since I recently made changes; however, don’t be shyed away.  There is some really great content there for everyone and a great way to learn about computers and information technology.

Be Sure To Visit My Sister Site – Bookmarks4Techs

If you are regular visitor to What’s On My PC, you surely have noticed that I have links posted to my sister site – Bookmarks4Techs.

image

Bookmark4Techs started out as a personal project of mine as a result of managing my personal blog – What’s On My PC.  When searching for content for my blog, I found myself constantly trolling the internet in search of the latest and the greatest in computers, software, and information technology.

I found, for the matter of convenience, that if I listed the sites I regularly visited on a web page, I could troll the internet at a much faster rate (especially with today’s tabbed browsers). It was after a certain point of collecting numerous tech related websites that I realized that this collection may be of use and interest to others.  I love visiting other tech blogs (and sites) and I am constantly adding to this collection.  It is amazing how good theses sites and blogs really are.

Bookmarks4Techs is not just for techs; it is for everyone. As a matter of fact it is a great conduit to Amazon.com where I am currently serving as an affiliate. For example, if you click on the computer and accessories tab you will be redirected directly to Amazon’s site on Computer Accessories. It all has been an experiment of sorts to test out the affiliate experience (to see if it really works) and at the same time give people a launching point to other technology sites. You will find the sidebars loaded with RSS feeds to some of the best tech sites out there; plus, if you click on the Bookmarks4Techs tab you will be taken to my collection of tech sites (currently over 600 sites and growing).

Also, in an effort to draw people to Bookmarks4Techs I am constantly trolling for tech bargains and new technologies that have surfaced on the market and any other tech related products that may be of interest to you. I especially use Amazon.com, TigerDirect, Circuit City, NewEgg, and CompUSA to locate products of interest.

I ask that you “pass the word”…

It has been awhile since I updated the blogroll (located at the right side of the blog). Sites (or blogs) that have not posted in over a year have been removed AND sites (or blogs) that no longer have a link exchange with What’s On My PC have been removed.  If I have inadvertently removed a site from the blogroll, please let me know.

Also, please welcome two new sites (reflected below) that have been added to the blogroll where link exchanges have been made.

Performed Some Site Maintenance – Blogroll Updated

After receiving some prompting and prodding I have cleaned up the blogroll somewhat so that the experience is more useful.  Any site that was on the blogroll that had not posted any articles within the past year have been taken off of the blogroll and archived (just in case they become active again).

To my readers out there, if you do not know what a blogroll is; it is a list of other blogs that a blogger (such as myself) might recommend by providing links to them (usually in a sidebar list).  You will find the blogroll here at What’s On My PC on the right side of the blog.

The blogs on my blogroll, which I am most proud to be associated with, are the following.  Take a few moments and hit these blogs. If you visit a site, leave them a comment that Rick from What’s On My PC  sent you. I promise you; you will not regret it.

Top 20 Most Popular Blogs – July 2010

An article I read today titled “Blogging is a Pain In The…” by Bill Mullins at Tech Thoughts really caught my attention. First off, Bill’s article is not as bad as it sounds; especially from a very popular blogger who has passed a million visitor’s twice and is now working toward the three million mark. Believe me, Bill has the blogging injuries to prove it and if you do not believe me, read the article [ HERE ] .

As a result of that article, I started to wonder what are some of the most popular blogs out there and found the “Top 20 Most Popular Blog for July 2010” compiled by eBizMBA. The results was derived from their eBizMBA Rank which is an average of each website’s Alexa Global Traffic Rank, and U.S. Traffic Rank from both Compete and Quantcast.

New Additions to the What’s On My PC Blogroll

Just completed some link exchanges and would like to introduce the following blogs that have been added to the What’s On My PC blogroll and Launch Pad.

image I Want Ice Water – If you need a good laugh for the day, check this blog out.  It is not a tech blog; however, I decided here at What’s On My PC, we need to mix it up a little with a pinch of humor. The author of the blog is definitely someone like me. “They ain’t hitting on all cylinders!’”.  Great blog that you need to check out.

I Want Ice Water – Is a mixture of humor & seriousness that reflects my own personal philosophy of life. From growing up a poor, mixed-race kid in the 50s, 60s & 70s, to living as a depressed urban hermit in recovery, this is a collection of my pleas for reason & rationality in this global asylum. The Only Thing I’m Certain Of Is: I Don’t Know Everything!

All Of My Opinions Are Subject To Change As New Facts Come In.

Your Comments Will Always Be Welcomed.

Laptop Computer Reviews Laptop Computer Reviews – from Real Users – If you are in the market for a laptop or notebook computer, this blog is a nice place to start your research. Numerous reviews are provided for a variety of models. Appears the blog is in the initial stages of development, with software reviews in their future.  Will only get better!
