Instructions and Video On How To Create a Bootable USB Flash Drive In Windows 10

Below you will find a source link to Technobezz and a video by Haig Dickson on the steps to take to create a bootable USB flash drive in Windows 10. This is useful when you need to deploy or reinstall Windows 10.

Creating a bootable USB flash drive in Windows 10 is easier than on Windows 7 or 8.1. The fact is that Microsoft has released a useful tool called «MediaCreationTool», which makes downloading of Windows 10 ISO-files much more convenient and easier. This guide (see source link below) will show you how to create a bootable USB Flash Drive in Windows 10.

BE AWARE that “Unlimited video storage at Google Photos has a catch” – Android Authority

If you are posting videos on Google Photos that have a file format that is not listed below; then, the file size will count against your online storage total. Video file sizes can add up quickly.

The Google Photos app icon.

If you use Google Photos to store video files, you likely are happy you have unlimited space (with some compression). However, there’s a new limitation to this unlimited storage.

The new policy took effect on December 6, 2018.

The supported video file formats are: .mpg, .mod, .mmv, .tod, .wmv, .asf, .avi, .divx, .mov, .m4v, .3gp, .3g2, .mp4, .m2t, .m2ts, .mts, and .mkv.

GEEK SQUEAKS – Use Windows 8.1’s Quick Access Menu To Shutdown Windows

What gets me about Windows 8 and 8.1 is that you have to go on an Easter egg hunt to find the most basic of functions that we commonly use in Windows. I really think Microsoft has a lost sight of what the end user’s needs are and have never heard of the K.I.S.S. (keep it simple stupid).

For example, anyone who has not experienced Windows 8 or 8.1 will immediately discover that they cannot easily find a shutdown button in order to turn the computer “off”. Recently I set up a Windows 8 box for my parents and I ended up creating a shutdown button on the taskbar so that they would not have to go digging for this function. To the home based end user, these sort of things can be a challenge.

For others out there, in an effort to help you out…  If you have upgraded to Windows 8.1, the easiest way to get to the Shutdown or Signout options, is to right mouse click on the Start Button which is located in the bottom left corner of the screen (or on the very left side of the task bar at the bottom of the screen). If you are not seeing the Start Button, hover your mouse pointer in the bottom left corner and the button will appear.  When the button appears, right mouse click on the Start Menu button and a menu will pop up.  This is called the Quick Access Menu.

Quick Access Menu

One the menu pops up you will see an option for Shutdown or Sign Out; and, if you hover your mouse pointer over that option another menu will appear to the side giving you the ability to Sign Out, Sleep, Shut Down or Restart.

This may sound like a lot, but once you accomplish this feat it will become second nature; PLUS, the bonus to this you will know how to get to many other features in Windows via the Quick Access Menu such as the Control Panel, Task Manager, File Explorer, etc…

GEEK SQUEAKS – A Must Have Tool For The Tech Toolbox

One thing I learned from working with PC’s is always have a way out when things go south. When trouble surfaces, you have option in Windows by the nature of its’ build to turn back the clock and restore a PC to a prior time when things were running OK.  This is very useful when a software install goes wrong, or a Windows update is not playing well; and, during those occasions where a malware infection is suspected.

The problem is that you often have to drill down to get to the Windows Restore. To solve this problem, I came across a tool, that is available as a portable app, called Restore Point Creator that will allow you to easily create and manage restore points.

Follow the simple program layout and you have your System Restore Point created in no time at all…

System Restore Creator

Create System Checkpoint – Creates a System Restore Point with the name of “System Checkpoint made by System Restore Point Creator”

Create Custom Named – Asks you what you want your System Restore Point to be named and then creates one based upon what you inputted.

GEEK SQUEAKS – Using Software To Change Your Computer DNS Fast (and Safe)

When you type in a web address from your browser, your computer connects to a DNS server (through your internet service provider) that takes that address (which is in a human readable form) and translates it to a IP address (which is a set of numbers). In the end, computers connect to each other on the network by their technical internet addresses called IPs: IP (v4) or IP (v6).

The DNS is typically transparent to most of us, but it is important to know that you can alter the DNS settings on your computer to serve specific purposes (such as to protect your kids from porn sites). Manually performing these changes is something most people will not do, fearing they may mess up their computers.

An automated solution or way to pick and choose a DNS is through software that is engineered to help you make the changes and to understand those changes.

One solution I use is Chris PC DNS Switch…

Chris PC DNS Switch

Chris PC DNS Switch has built-in preset groups of servers in its DNS database, ChrisPC DNS Switch offers you the freedom to conveniently manage your DNS settings for all the network adapters belonging to your PC/laptop running Windows. End result is that you can pick and choose a DNS that is suitable for your situation (such as protecting the kids from porn).

Believe Nothing and Verify Everything – Golden Eagle Snatches Kid Video

When it comes to computers, information technology, and the internet; I have a motto, “believe nothing and verify everything”. Just because it is on the internet, DO NOT let that lead you to believe that the source is reputable. It is this false sense, that the internet is the brain of the universe that knows all, that get’s us into trouble.

For example, three students that attend a school in Montreal, that specializes in 3-D animation design, recently posted a video (that was made up in product simulation) of what purportedly shows what is described as a Golden Eagle snatching a child in a Montreal park.

This video was so believable that it chalked up over 5 million views on YouTube in one day and at the time I posted this article, the video was nearing the 19 million view mark. I bet these guys who developed the video got an “A+” on this video project

Must See – 3D Color Printing of a Crescent Wrench

You have to see this to believe it! I initially thought this was a hoax of some type.

It is a 3D printer (by Z Corporation) that has the ability to capture an object, edit the appearance of the object, then actually print (or replicate) a 3D working composite model of the object. The 3D printer (called the Zprinter) starts out by using a specially engineered powder that is mixed with a binder material that solidifies the powder particles.

Hold a full color, realistic 3D model in your hands to impart infinitely more information than a computer image.

ZPrinter

To see the printer in action I encourage you to watch the video below of a Crescent wrench being replicated using the ZPrinter.

[VIDEO] WALMARTians (AKA: People of Walmart)

I am sure, here in the States, you will be doing that last minute shopping for that 4th of July grilling party and one of your stops will most likely be at the Walmart monopoly.  As a result of the monopoly, every Tom, Dick, and Harriet, who once visited the local (now defunct) Mom and Pop stores, have no choice but to venture out into public view as, Walmartians (aka: The People of Walmart).

I routinely receive chain emails with updated versions of The People of Walmart and have come to the conclusion it is our humanistic way of making fun of ourselves in an economic environment that is now controlled by people of wealth.

To keep the humor going, here is a YouTube music video of the People of Walmart (by Jessica Frech).  Be sure to visit Jessica’s Website [HERE] – and have a Happy and Safe 4th!

Video: Take A Ride In The Dragon Lady to the Edge of Space

James May from Top Gear rides in a U-2 spy plane

The Lockheed U-2, nicknamed “Dragon Lady“, is a single-engine, very high-altitude reconnaissance aircraft operated by the United States Air Force and previously flown by the Central Intelligence Agency. It provides day and night, very high-altitude (70,000 feet / 21,000 meters), all-weather intelligence gathering. The aircraft is also used for electronic sensor research and development, satellite calibration, and satellite data validation. [Source: Wikipedia]

This is the internet and HD video at its’ best…  Click on the video link below to see a mother bald eagle on her nest tending to three hatchlings. Last I looked they had not hatched yet. The Raptor Resource Project in Iowa has two cameras positioned to capture the moment.  I don’t know how long this live video coverage will be up, but you have to see this [ CLICK HERE ] .

The Raptor Resource Project (RRP) maintains the cams, of which there are two, and the feed is streamed online 24/7. Both are positioned on one of the nest’s supporting limbs about 4-5 feet above the nest. The main cam is automated and is trained on the nest. The other cam has pan-tilt-zoom capabilities (PTZ). At dark the main cam switches to infrared (invisible to the eagles) night-time view. Here is a slide show of the cam installation in fall 2010.

FREE On-Demand Music, Internet Radio and MORE!

MuziicTake the music world of YouTube and optimize access to that music world using an innovative and user-friendly interface and you have Muziic. This is exactly what a father and son team developed that has not only created a flurry of controversy, but has literally opened up an entire world of music, from top artist, that can be streamed across the internet to your PC (or mobile device). The father and son team describe Muziic as the world’s first YouTube-compliant music video service based on YouTube’s open API.  Muziic launched February 25th, 2009

Muziic is a true multi-platform service that allows you to stream virtually any song or music video on-demand, build custom playlists, tune-in to thousands of internet radio stations and browse high quality music content – anytime, anywhere.

By signing up (for FREE) to Muziic you have option of using their web based web player or you can download the desktop player. In my case, I simply use the web interface.

With Muziic you can load, customize and save playlists that you can revisit anytime from anywhere. You have access to song lyrics, music videos, internet radio stations, albums, artists, and can even do some karaoke.

The really, really cool part of Muziic is the DJ (music deck) interface [HERE] ; that, in my opinion provides the ultimate cloud based music player experience.

Who Said Penguins Cannot Fly

I occasionally come across a YouTube video that just sticks with me and I feel I need to share it with others. This video, a BBC Documentary clip, is about penguins that are so technologically advanced, they have found a way to fly. What is so special about these penguins is that they do not have to huddle together to stay warm.  Watch this amazing video to see these penguins in flight.

Are you in need of some inspiration?

One of the functions I serve in my Church is that of the Multimedia Director. I have proudly served in that capacity for over 6 years. One of the challenges I often face is locating content to be used with our projection system (such as movies, backgrounds, etc…). I have learned to use the vast resources on the internet to engineer the Sunday morning service presentations. Often, a challenge I face is making sure (or honestly trying to make sure) that I get permission to use copyrighted material.

Magnificent Recently the Pastor contacted me about video, called “Magnificent”, that he had found on the internet at a site called Andie’s Isle.  It was at this point I went to work.

Andie's Isle

I contacted Andie, at at Andie’s Isle, to determine if there was a downloadable version of the video available, since the video was embedded on the site; AND, if possible could I use it?  Andie graciously worked with me to provide the video.

Being the good blogger, the good geek and most importantly the good Christian; this gave me the opportunity to thank Andie, at Andie’s Isle, by making her site shine here at What’s On My PC

To my readers; take a few moments to visit Andie’s Isle. That few moments will definitely be an uplifting experience that will prompt you to visit again and again.

A FREE Multifunctional Media Converter

It is very confusing to most users when it comes to the various media formats; whether it be audio (music), video and picture files. Once you think you have the file formats figured out, you will spend a great deal of time trying to find a conversion utility that will take one file format and convert it to another so that it will be compatible with whatever device you are working with.

I recently started using a FREE program called Format Factory that  makes the conversion process from one media format to another a breeze. This is one of those FREE software applications that is comparable to the commercial products that you pay for. Format Factory supports  conversion of all popular video, audio, and picture formats.

Exercise routine for computer geeks…

If you spend a great deal of time at the computer, I do not have to tell you the shape for which your body will eventually mold into…

LifeHackerLike all geeks, we look for the quick fix, the reboot, the format, the hack…  Today on LifeHacker I ventured across this (5 minute) exercise routine (called a “burpee”) that reportedly a prison inmate performed on a daily basis, in confined quarters, to remain in shape.  Not to take anything from the LifeHacker story, I encourage that you visit LifeHacker [ CLICK HERE ] to preview a video they have posted where Mike Rowe, from the Discovery Channel, demonstrates how to do the “burpee” routine.

Now my disclaimer, so that I do not kill off any Geeks out there; “always consult with your physician prior to performing any exercise routines; especially burpees!”

The Five-Minute Prison Workout Keeps You Fit in Any Space [ via LifeHacker ]

Mike Rowe from Discovery Channel’s Dirty Jobs demonstrates how to get a great workout in any space by performing several sets of descending repetitions of the classic “burpee.”

The burpee is by no means a new exercise routine, but if you’re looking for a little variety in your fitness routine or you don’t have space for a treadmill or other exercise equipment, burpees are a great option for staying fit. [via Kyle Pott]

OctoMom – 8 bits = 1 byte

The OctoMom story [see here] is one of those sensations that creates a transference of the mind from the “real” problems in our world.  OctoMom in tech terms…  OctoMom birthed a “byte” of children.  They would easily fit on my flash drive!

I really had a good laugh today over this story when someone sent me a link to this video. It is a videotape of Nadya Suleman delivering her eight children in a California hospital. It is available for upward of $1 million (LOL).
